Setting Up a Business During and After Covid

For many individuals, the recent Covid-19 pandemic has meant a time of uncertainty, worry and frustration, particularly around employment. With approximately 9.1 million people currently furloughed (data as of 14th June 2020) and job security not what it was, many are taking the time and opportunity to consider their future employment options.

Over the last few months, we have all had to adapt to a new way of life. On a personal level, that’s involved going without seeing loved ones, staying at home, juggling kids and home-schooling, and, for many, battling mental health issues. Each and every one of us is trying hard to carry on and make the most of this new and very different world. Work, for most of us, has also had to change. For our much-loved key-workers, this has not only meant increasing working hours, but also having to deal with concerns and anxieties over catching Coronavirus and passing it on to others. As a result, many have had to stay away from immediate family members. We join the nation in thanking each and every one of them for their commitment, dedication and continued hard work.

For the rest of us, we have had to deal with the fact that business won’t return to normal for a long time to come. Covid-19 has shaken up the global economy, and businesses have been hit in a variety of different ways. Whilst some have been fortunate enough to be able to continue without the need to furlough any staff or make any redundancies, we are all too aware that others have not been so lucky. The Bank of England expects unemployment to jump from 4% to 9% as a result of the pandemic; the highest rate since 1994.

Whilst this will no doubt take its toll on the economy; many are already seeing their time away from work as an opportunity to consider their employment future. People are rethinking their options, with thoughts about achieving a better work-life balance at the forefront of many minds. Many trends that were expected to occur over coming years have been forced into happening much quicker; increased working from home, shopping local, less travel, boosting the green economy and carrying out important meetings online are all areas that many businesses were already striving to achieve. The need to adapt to a new type of digital age is providing the opportunity for many new businesses to rise from the ashes of the Coronavirus. The heavy increase towards digital is a golden opportunity for individuals looking to set up online businesses.

As a digital agency, we know the importance of being able to work remotely. We understand the value of online meetings and organic visibility. Whilst our clients are our absolute focus, we work with them in a collaborative way that doesn’t require the need to physically come together. Through Zoom calls and Google Hangouts, we keep our clients up to speed on all of the latest goings-on; through Office 365 and the Google Suite, we share documents and ideas to enable us to work together to achieve great things.

Everything is going online. It has to in order to survive. And as such, people are looking at new and innovative ways to meet the demands that have always existed; but just in new ways that are adaptable and online.
