Understanding Local SEO.

Local SEO is the process of optimising your website and other online assets such as local citations and directory listings, to maximise the chances of your business being shown when a user performs a search which contains localised search intent signals. These signals can either be explicit or implicit.

Explicit signals:

Include terms such as “near me”, or typically mention a geographic location such as a town/city, or a geographic area, such as a county.

Examples might include:

  • “Taxi companies near me”
  • “Dentist in Oxford”
  • “Local SEO companies in Oxfordshire”
  • "Private schools within 20 miles"

Implicit signals:

Are when search engines understand that users typically want a local solution even if they haven’t explicitly stated one. It normally determines the focus location based on your IP address or GPS coordinates (if enabled), such as on mobile devices.

For example, “car dealerships” will bring up a list of local dealers to you even though you haven’t provided your location.

It’s important to note that the results you see, will often therefore vary based on your location, and the amount of competition. The results for “hairdressers”, for example, are more likely to change as you move around your town or city than results for something with less competition, such as “Plastic manufacturers”.

  • How is local SEO different from standard SEO?

    Local SEO focuses on helping to connect users with a local business who provide a given product or service, and is heavily biased by the user’s physical location in relation to local businesses and/or, the use of “near me” or specifically named locales such as a specific town, city, or county.

    In contrast, more generalised SEO focuses on increasing visibility of a brand regardless (and of in the absence) of a location focused intent.

  • How much does local SEO cost?

  • Who’s eligible for a Google Ad Grant?

    If you’re unsure if you qualify for a Google Ad Grant, we’re here to help. Google outlines that you must meet their website policy and program policies, as well as the following:

    • Must be registered as a charitable organisation in a country or region where the Google Ad Grant is available (such as the UK). 
    • Must agree to the Google for Nonprofits Additional Terms of Service.
    • Must not be a government entity or organisation, a hospital or healthcare organisation, or a school, academic institution, or university.
    • UK charities must be registered with the charity regulator in England and Wales (Charity Commission), Northern Ireland (NICC), or Scotland (OSCR); or HMRC as charitable tax-exempt charities or churches. 
  • How long does it take to apply for a Google Ad Grant?

    The Google Ad Grant application process typically takes around five business days, but can take longer in some cases. For example, you’ll need to be enrolled on Google for Nonprofits to apply for the ad grant, which can take a few days to a week for approval.

  • How long does it take to set up a Google Ad Grant campaign?

    This is dependent on several things, with the number of ad groups within a campaign being one of the biggest deciding factors. A campaign can have any number of ad groups; each of which would take around 45 minutes to create. That time includes a number of tasks such as keyword research, competitor analysis, creating and optimising 15 headline variations and 4 description variations. Your Google Ad Grant account could have any number of campaigns within it - this all depends on your specific goals and target keywords.

  • How much do your Google Ad Grant packages cost?

    Our Google ad grant packages start at £700 for the initial set up, which is roughly 10 hours of work. However, in some cases, (eg. depending on the size of your campaigns) this may take longer. Yes, we do. Your website will be in very safe hands. We professionally host your website with one of the UK’s leading data centres and we take multiple daily backups of your website.

I have had alternative quotes for £1,000’s; What am I missing?

We believe that your website should be able to evolve as your business grows. Our recurring revenue model means that we are essentially in partnership with you. Traditional models with high upfront costs and ongoing maintenance fees are a thing of the past.

  • What happens when I sign up for the 100 Club?

    The process is simple:

    1. Choose your package and sign up for The 100 Club via the GoCardless link that we will send to you
    2. The GoCardless sign up will secure the next available project start date. Complete your Design Brief by the time of your project start slot, ideally one week prior to your start date
    3. From the information provided in your Design Brief, we will produce a home page mockup for you to review and approve and we will make any design changes that you might wish to make at this stage
    4. Once we have your mockup approval, we will start to build your demo site
    5. We will provide you with a private URL so that you can view the build and give your feedback and sign off at regular intervals
    6. When you're happy with your site, we will make it live
    7. Once your website is live, you can use your inclusive update service to keep your website fresh and informative
  • When will I start paying?

    We will not start charging you until we start working on your website. When you sign up to GoCardless, this will secure the next available start date. We only start invoicing you when we reach that date and start working on your mockups.
  • Do I have to provide the content?

    Yes, you provide all of your webpage content. We can assist with stock images if needed, however, we strongly recommend you provide us with unique imagery where possible as this is preferred by users and search engines alike. We do offer a professional content writing service in addition to The 100 Club if you would like us to create content for you.
  • How many pages are included within the standard cost of the 100 Club?

    This will depend on the package that you have chosen:

    • The Foundation Package includes up to 15 pages
    • The Advanced Package includes up to 25 pages
    • The Professional Package includes up to 50 pages

    We encourage our clients to continue to add content to their websites. It can really help to drive more traffic to your website and that is why our packages also include monthly updates. Over time, if your website grows, it will not affect your monthly payments.

  • What if I need additional pages and how much do they cost?

    Additional pages are charged as a one-off cost and do not change the monthly price. If, at the time of the initial build, you need additional pages to be built. We charge a one-off cost of £50 +VAT per additional page.
  • How long does the design and build process take?

    An indicator of your website start date will be communicated to you before you sign up and confirmed upon GoCardless sign up. From when we start on your build, the home page mock-ups usually take between 7-10 days. Once you have approved your design the average build time will depend on the package that you have chosen:

    • Foundation Package - 4-6 weeks
    • Advanced Package - 6-8 weeks
    • Professional Package - 8-10 weeks

    This is dependent on you having the content ready to supply throughout the build process.

  • How often can I update my website?

    This is dependent on the package that you choose:

    • The Foundation Package includes up to 2 updates per month
    • The Advanced Package includes up to 4 updates per month
    • The Professional Package includes up to 6 updates per month

  • What do you mean by 'an update'?

    An update is a content change to your website. Here are some typical examples of updates that we process for our clients on a daily basis:

    • Adding new blogs, articles and news pages
    • Changing existing page content
    • Removing old event pages
    • Adding new service pages
    • Changing contact details
    • Adding new staff bios
  • How long does it take to process an update?

    We aim to complete updates as soon as possible and always within 3 working days. If you have an urgent update, speak to one of our team and we will try to accommodate this.
  • What about my domain name?

    Your domain is always yours! If you already have a domain name and access to your control panel, then we will advise you on how to point your DNS records to our server when your site is ready to go live. If you have a current web or IT company managing your domain hosting, then we will advise you on how to transfer your domain to either yourself or to us to manage. If this is the first time you are purchasing a domain, we can do this for you and manage it on your behalf.

    Does this sound a bit complicated? If so, don't worry, we will talk you through everything you need to know or do.

  • Do you also provide an email service?

    No, but we do recommend using either Google Workspace or Office 365. If your current web hosting includes emails, these will need to be migrated. Don't worry if this sounds overly complicated as we will talk you through the process and can recommend a good IT support company if you don't already have one.
  • Once my website is built, can I update it myself?

    One of the big benefits of being part of The 100 Club is having a web developer on-hand when you need them to update your website. You send us your updates and we will do the rest. If you would like access to update your website yourself, this can be arranged but our web developers are experts in what they do and we encourage our clients to use them.
  • Is my site secure and backed up?

    Yes, we include a standard SSL certificate within the cost of The 100 Club, and all of our sites are backed up daily.
  • What is the minimum length of contract for the 100 Club?

    12 months - After this period, if you wish to have another website company design you a new site, then there is no charge. If you would like us to transfer your site to another provider, we charge a £250 transfer fee to cover the cost of packaging up your site, removing the old site and assisting with the migration.
